What do we want to accomplish?
We want interesting discussions and assignments--and more time to think.
We want to become auto-didacts--in charge of our own education.
Freedom of discussion
Critical distance in addressing differing views
Open, that is, respectful, discourse
No need to raise hands in order to participate
Good thought questions (these are called Higher Order Thinking Skills--follow this link for description)
Get beyond the obvious
These should come from the members of the class.
For now, do not be concerned about verifying the plot & facts with quizzes or drills
Variety of activities as we work with these ideas
How will this happen?
Flexibility about deadlines. E-mail Mrs. B prior to class if you cannot finish assignment.
Assessments: Coaching approach (which is about future performance). No letter grades (which are about past achievement).
Peer assessments & Self assessments
Decide on the balance between effort and achievement in determining final grade for class.
Establish standards for each assignment and reading as we proceed
How will we know when we have succeeded?
Sunshine provision: we will re-think this structure October 3 to decide whether we have achieved the atmosphere we aimed for.
Reflect on what you have learned and assess yourself

October 5th is a Sunday, and I thought we were going to do the Sunshine law(?!) on October 3rd.
Besides that, everything looks fine.
