Erasmus

Erasmus was a classical scholar, known to use humanist techniques.  He wrote and lived during a time when people were skeptical of the church.  There were critics, including Erasmus,  who rejected the authority of the Pope and developed new beliefs.

Erasmus dedicated his masterpiece, In Praise of Folly or “Moriae Enconium”, to Sir Thomas More.  He also said that Sir Thomas More was a model Man of letters.  They both embraced the humanist project, re-examining the Christian theology by studying the Bible and writings of Church Fathers.  Erasmus collaborated with More on a Latin translation of Lucian works.
