MONDAY: Coaching on the wiki pages; aesthetics, linking. Tell Mrs. B when you think they are ready to be assessed; tell Mrs. B if you need coaching on how to proceed or decide.

TUESDAY: Aristotle on Happiness. There are 3 foundations for a happy ("complete") life; one is better than the other 2.
1. Gratification & material goods: A life based on pleasure (his version of the Land of Cockaigne). Sex,food, laughing, dancing, toys. However, you always want more and it is an essentially selfish life.
2. Political Activity & Life of Honor. Popularity, status, flattery, flattery, awards (Prize Day through Pulitzer & Nobel), college acceptances. People get it wrong because they perceive incorrectly, wrong values are upheld, awards are made for reasons other than merit.
3. Study & Contemplation: Sustainable, involves self-determination; you know that fortunes change and that what is good may become bad and vice versa.

A "Complete Life" is living by your own standards and thoughts. When no one is looking—that is what you are. We are what we habitually do
Watch your thoughts they become words, watch your words they become actions, watch your actions they become habit, then watch your habits they become your character.

WEDNESDAY: Humanists & Thomas More. Very involved with the Church and was eventually canonized (we described what this meant and why he was a candidate for canonization. Humanists think about how humans should act virtuously, without divine law or supernatural intervention. They believe in human potential to broaden people's understanding of themselves and others. Question: If More was so involved with religion, how cna he be a humanist? He can be located on a continuum between Divine Law and Chaotic Natural Life--somewhere closer to Divine Law than Erasmus. Question: What is a secular humanist? Those who decide on right conduct without resorting to the authority of divine law. Question: What about consequences? What about the possibility of making wrong decisions? This leads back to the problem of free will. These questions are at the heart of all Utopian writing.
