Assignment 8 A New Idea  AND  Social Contract

1. Identify one idea you have encountered during the first weeks of this class that caused you to pause, rethink, and change your mind. What did you believe before? Where did you encounter it; what spurred your thought? What is your new idea? What difference does it make?

2. As you remember from US History, the United States Constitution rests on the philsophical idea of the social contract. Explain what it is and then consider how does the idea operates within Utopia and Walden Two.

[If you need a refresher, google "social contract" but DO NOT RELY ONLY on the Wikipedia entry, which is superficial. Go to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy entry for a cogent explanation.]
